About
five years ago we started to see more popularity in performance boating
up in the more northern parts of the state, and it only made sense to
follow suit with some events to give those boating nuts something to
do in their own back yard. In Jacksonville, which in our opinion is
one of the neatest places to live if you're a powerboater, we offered
events in all direction. Southbound, we toured the Intracoastal to St.
Augustine and Daytona Beach. Northbound, we wandered the scenic coastal
waters of Georgia through Brunswick and Savannah and to Hilton Head
SC. But one run that steers clear of the Atlantic intracoastal waterways
and in fact doesn't come close to the Atlantic Ocean at all, is the
North Florida River Rally. We skipped this one in 2000, but this past
September we met at the in Downtown Jax on the St. John's River, and
headed southbound through the scenic winding river to the area's most
popular boating hot-spot, Silver Glen Springs. It was our fourth time
since '97 we'd been there with the club, and with the absence of the
liquor-induced (wild) parties that once prevailed there, the Glen was
as beautiful and scenic as ever. Just a little quieter. We got a chance
to meet up with several new members of the club, and it was wonderful
to once again experience the quiet, rustic charm of Floridian Sports
Club, a small, well managed resort that took care of our every need!
It felt good to be back, and we're sure to return in 2002!
