WE'LL MISS YOU JERRYWe'll Miss you Jerry! We suffered the recent loss of fellow member Jerry Carr, from North Miami, who was a member with the club since 1994. These shots in his Hustler Slingshot prove that he got in some great boating before his untimely passing just a few weeks later.
WANNA PLAYChris Sykes and the boys from Atlanta were ready for action in "Wanna Play", a 25' Baja they trailered down to Fla for the poker run. Even in the rough seas heading home from Key West, the crew hung on for the ride and took the boat home the same way they brought it.....in one piece!
VAPOR TRAILSA brilliant white vapor trail is left behind as the Poker Run fleet passes from Key to Key across open bay waters. From high above, its an incredible sight for passing air traffic. The single file formation is a must in the bay waters of the Florida Keys, giving plenty of room for oncoming traffic to pass safely.
THUNDER IN PARADISEActive Thunder boss Pat Haughey and Ohio dealer Al Morse got together for this run, with a brand spankin' new 37' Active Thunder Step. This machine is turning in some serious performance numbers, so let's stay tuned and see how it fairs on the Factory racing circuit!
Team RAYTED XRay Ferrone and son Mike put on a fantastic show in his incredible 46 Skater, Rayted X., which also took home the Peoples Choice Award for Most Outrageous Boat. The Sterling powered former Superboat now attends FPC Poker Runs, and is rumored to run in the one-forties! Not bad at all!
Team F-40Mark Wetterau joined the ranks of our growing "West Coast Clan". The California native brought his awesome 40 Skater on the Poker Run, taking home the Peoples Choice Award for Best Engines. His Merc 900 SC's recently went to Sterling in Michigan for some performance improvements...the result was a beautiful pleasure boat that ran like an open class raceboat. We hope to see more of F-40 this fall!
T-BACK HEAVENTo Mother Nature for a perfect day..THANK YOU. To Dave Dodart, who provided the 47 Fountain Paceboat, THANK YOU. To Robinson Helicopters for building a nice helicopter for covering our events..THANK YOU. To Janet(L)and Cary(R)for looking so great...THANK YOU. To Venus Swimwear for making T-backs...THANK YOU BIGTIME!!
SUNSATIONALLionel Croom always puts on a great show in this beautiful 32' Sunsation Dominator. They're a long way from their home-state Missouri, but they manage to make the trip to Florida with the boat at least once a year.
STEVE & TODDSteve Wishart and Todd Burchett from Atlanta attended the Spring Key West Poker Run last year with a 32 Advantage. Somehow, inside of a year, that turned into a triple 42 Fountain! Not bad guys...hope you don't run out of water up in Lake Lanier this summer!
SHARK BITEMake no mistake....you won't see another 38 Special as unique as "Shark Bite"! Mark Kelly came all the way from Missouri with his all-white Baja, for his first Poker Run with the club.
REVOLUTIONWe first spotted Mark Ciano and this one-of-a-kind 42 Revolution at the Emerald Coast Poker Run in Fort Walton Beach. Now he's hooked on the Keys, joining the club for the Spring Key West Poker Run. "Hard Candy" makes it's home in the Florida Panhandle, where offshore powerboating is growing in popularity.
OFFSHORE PLAYERRonnie & Katy Hobson made the Spring Key West Poker Run their first romp with the Club, in their 38' Fountain, "Offshore Player". Great name for a Poker Run boat! They took home the prize for "Best Dressed Crew" thanks to their nicely embroidered team uniforms.
MONOPOLYFurther proof that they just keep getting nicer and faster!Richard Scrushy's "Monopoly" made its club debut on the Spring Key West Poker Run...turning heads constantly. The 40' pleasure Skater is powered by Merc 900 Sc's, and took home double awards, Best Graphics & Paint along with Best Overall Cat. Look for Richard and Crew Chief Brian Ray on the Poker Run circuit around the nation!
MARTY'S G-FORCEMarty Flaska has made a great Poker Run debut with the club over the last six months, coming all the way from Chicago with his Hustler Slingshot, "G-Force", for at least three events! What's trick about this machine, is that it's powered by a pair of Merc 800SC's making it one of the frontrunners on every poker run.
MAKIN' WAVESDr. Steve Valentino from King of Prussia, PA, in this colorful Cigarette Top Gun, "Makin' Waves", powered by big 950 HP Hawks. The nicely decked out engine room won him the Peoples Choice Award for Best Rigging.
LOOKIN' SHARP!Our chopper crew closes in on the pack as we blast across the open water near Stiltsville in Biscayne Bay. Up close, is the Canadian team "Dealin' with the Devil", a slick 47 Fountain Lightning prepared by Jim Earle Marine for owner Todd Frankland and family.
JEWFISH CREEK, KEY LARGOThis is one of the reasons that the Florida Keys are such a great boating destination. Here, our Poker Run fleet weaves through the scenic mangroves of Jewfish Creek, as we approach the heart of Key Largo.
IMPRESSIVE SIGHT!Flying Formation! Our Poker Run fleet resembles an aerobatic team as they blast off from Miami.
GANG WAYWe've always said offshore powerboating can bring the animal out of anyone. Here's proof...as Ralph Zell gets on the throttles in his new Baja 36 Outlaw. We're not sure if wife RoseAnn has a similar reaction, but we'll give her credit for putting up with this monster.
EXTREME MEASURESTony Roche is fast becoming a hard-core FPC member in his 37' Active Thunder, "Extreme Measures". Since taking delivery in late '99, he's attended almost every FPC event through May of 2000. That's a lot of Florida boating! For the summer months he's back at home, cruising the Chesepeake.
DEALIN' WITH THE DEVILBy far one of the nicest 47 Fountains in our club is Todd Frankland's "Dealin' with the Devil"! Jim Earle Marine prepared the machine for Todd, who brings the family all the way from Brampton, Ontario to Florida in the winter months, and hits all the Poker Runs up north in the summer. The "Devil" won Peoples Choice for best Team Name!
BUZZED-BYE"Buzzed-By"...great name for a boat, and it's exactly what Greg Fries will do in his performance-tweaked Sonic 358! The whipple-blower 500's are pumping out some serious horsepower, and the only thing that Greg fears is the almighty "Bravo Dilemna". Seems to be holding out fine though..last few runs went without any glitches!
BEACH BEAUTIESThe island paradise of Boca Grande became our getaway cruise after we arrived in Key West. Once the boats were anchored, the girls wasted no time getting into the warm surf and splashing around on the white sandy beach. Dealin' With the Devil made for a great prop, as Maria, Janet, Laura and Cary paused for this Kodak moment.
BAY BLASTThe final open water blast across Barnes Sound, a protected bay that leads our group into Jewfish Creek in Key Largo. Moving along in the front of the frame is Greg Fries in his Sonic 358, "Buzzed By", which is about to be buzzed by our chopper crew.
BARNEY'S BEASTNo Garden Variety powerboat. If this rare 39' Cigarette could speak...what stories it might tell. Barney Welch's "Powerboat Magazine Special" was once owned and raced by the legendary Bob Nordskog. The '77 hull was completely redone by Barney recently, and is powered by Gentry Turbo's that can be literally "cranked -up" to 900 HP. Barney and newlywed Vicki are just cruisin' today!
AQUADISIACDave and Jackie Dodart from Utah hosted our FPC crew in their new Sundance Marine 47 Fountain Sport Cruiser. "Aquadisiac" (another great name for a boat)proved to be a very comfortable ride, and our models Cary and Janet seemed to enjoy the spacious sun lounge for most of the weekend!
