Bahamas Poker Run 2010
Grand Bahama Island & BiminiJuly 22-27, 2010
19th Annual Bahamas Poker Run
Adventure of a Lifetime!
In May of 1992, the Sunny Isles Powerboat Club departed from Haulover Inlet, with a small group of boats headed for Bimini. That very cruise proved to be an historic excursion, as it set the stage for a long and colorful history of boating adventures to follow, under the Florida Powerboat Club umbrella. In the nineteen years that followed, the boats have changed dramatically, the run-down hotels have been replaced with luxurious resorts, and the adventure continues. It's just so incredible to take your own boat from Continental U.S. to a foreign nation, much less one that consists of over seven hundred islands ...each its own paradise! Depending on who you ask, the Bahamas Poker Run might often be described as the Crown Jewel of FPC Poker Run events. It is certainly an adventure that every boater should have on his or her MUST DO List! The Bahamas Poker Run 2010 features a newly revised itinerary that was introduced in summer 2009....and offers the Best of the Bahamas in a six day format, with a variety of destinations, daytime fun runs, and nightime activities including casinos and excellent dining.
The event kicks off from the landmark Fort Lauderdale Hilton, on 17th Street Causeway, which offers discounted rates to participants. The Wednesday night captains meeting will welcome participants at provide a complete review of safety procedures and planned activities for the next six days. Then, on early Thursday AM, the group will head out through Port Everglades, taking a northeast course for the 75 miles trip to Old Bahama Bay Resort & Marina at West End. After clearing customs and immigration, the entire day may be spent on the pristine beaches of this highly acclaimed resort property. Accommodations include one, two and three bedroom luxurious suites, at very reasonable rates.
On Friday, the entire poker run group will then travel approximately 35 miles further east to Port Lucaya (near Freeport), with dockage at the Grand Bahama Yacht Club and accommodations at Our Lucaya Resort, which is the premier resort destination on Grand Bahama Island. The property offers lavish grounds, a tremendous beach, fabulous pools, many restaurants from casual to upscale, and a lively casino!
Area cruising includes a sight-seeing trip along the Grand Lucayan Waterway and rafting up along the secluded beach at Petersons Cay, where a shallow coral reef offers great snorkeling. On Sunday, some participants may return to Fort Lauderdale, although the majority will take the optional two-day extended trip to Bimini, where we’ll visit the all-new BIMINI BAY RESORT & MARINA.
Bimini is just 72 miles Southwest of Port Lucaya, and less than sixty miles to return directly to Fort Lauderdale. There are plenty of nearby attractions including the concrete shipwreck "Sapona", reef snorkeling and pristine, white sandy beaches! In addition, Bimini Bay Resort is offering attendees a variety of luxurious accommodations including their popular 1BR suites with a spiral staircase to a king bed loft, or the spacious four bedroom ocean view resort homes, which offer the very best in furnishings, home entertainment electronics and creature comforts. Now Bimini has the best of both worlds...the rustic, laid back charm of this small island village, with the first class accommodations of a thriving new resort community that has sprawled up in just the last few years.
